Linked ski area
Portes du Soleil
A cross-border ski area linking resorts in France and Switzerland, including Avoriaz.
Portes du Soleil snow forecast
No snow is expected at any of the 1 place in Portes du Soleil in the next 7 days.
The area
The Portes du Soleil links twelve French and Swiss villages between Lake Geneva and Mont Blanc, including Avoriaz, Morzine, Les Gets and Châtel on the French side and Champéry and Morgins in Switzerland, with around 600 km of pistes. Avoriaz, purpose-built and car-free on a cliff at 1,800 m, is the high point and the snowiest base; most of the other villages sit around 1,000 m.
The snow
In our record Avoriaz averages about 14 snowy days at mid-mountain in January and 12 in December and March. The area’s weakness is altitude: much of the skiing is between 1,000 m and 2,000 m, so a mild storm brings rain to the lower villages while Avoriaz gets snow.
