Snow in the Columbia Mountains

The Columbia Mountains sit between the Rockies and the Coast Mountains in the interior of British Columbia, and they are the heart of Canada’s powder country. The Selkirks hold Revelstoke, which has the biggest lift-served vertical in North America, and the Purcells hold Kicking Horse. The region is also the home of cat-skiing and heli-skiing.

In our record Revelstoke averages about 17 snowy days at mid-mountain in December and 14 to 16 in January and February, and Kicking Horse 10 to 12. Storms arrive from the Pacific having already crossed the Coast Mountains, so the snow here is drier than at Whistler but still frequent.

When it snows

Seasons run from early December to mid-April.
