About Breckenridge

Breckenridge is in Summit County, Colorado, next to the town of the same name. The ski area covers five peaks and nearly 3,000 acres.

The base is at 9,600 ft (2,926 m), the summit on Peak 8 is at 12,998 ft (3,962 m), and the resort says about 40% of its acreage is above the treeline.

The snow

Breckenridge is one of the highest resorts in North America: the base is at 2,926 m, the highest lift on Peak 8 at 3,914 m, and about 40% of the terrain is above the treeline. In our record it snows on about 13 days at mid-mountain in March and 10 to 11 in the other winter months, with the season running from early November to early May on the strength of that altitude. Snow was on the ground every Christmas Day in the last ten years. The height means cold, dry snow and thin air: visitors from sea level notice the altitude.

Who it suits

A wide range: long, easy groomers on Peaks 8 and 9, steeper bowls above the treeline on Peaks 6, 7 and 8, and a Victorian mining town with more going on than most Colorado resorts. It is on the Epic Pass and busy at weekends because of its distance from Denver.

Getting there

Denver airport is about two hours by road.
