About Whistler Blackcomb

Whistler Blackcomb combines Whistler Mountain, which opened in 1966, and Blackcomb Mountain, which opened in 1980. The Peak 2 Peak Gondola has linked the two since December 2008. The resort hosted the alpine skiing events of the 2010 Winter Olympics.

The resort has 8,171 acres of skiable terrain and has been owned by Vail Resorts since 2016. Vancouver International Airport is about 137 km away.

The snow

Whistler is the largest ski resort in North America and one of the snowiest in this record: about 17 to 18 snowy days a month at mid-mountain in December and January and 15 to 16 in February and March. The catch is the village at 675 m, close to the Pacific, where storms often arrive as rain. The two mountains reach 2,284 m, and the alpine bowls at the top, along with the Blackcomb glacier, are where the snow is cold and deep. Snow was on the ground every Christmas Day in the last ten years, and in our record the best winter of the ten was 2016/17.

Who it suits

Everyone, at scale: more terrain than any resort on the continent, from the glacier bowls and Spanky’s Ladder to long groomed cruisers and a pedestrian village with good restaurants. Whistler is on the Epic Pass. Expect crowds at the base on powder mornings and rain in the village in a mild spell.

Getting there

Vancouver airport is about two hours by road on the Sea to Sky Highway, with frequent buses.
