Saalbach lies at about 1,003 m in the Glemmtal, with Hinterglemm further up the valley. The resort hosted the Alpine World Ski Championships in 1991.

The Skicircus Saalbach Hinterglemm Leogang Fieberbrunn has 270 km of slopes and about 70 lifts, running along both sides of the valley and over to Leogang in Salzburg and Fieberbrunn in Tyrol. The slopes reach a high point of 2,096 m, and most of the terrain is blue or red.
