Mayrhofen sits at 633 m in the Zillertal and is the terminus of the Zillertalbahn railway from Jenbach.

The ski area has 142 km of slopes and 61 lifts, between 630 m and 2,500 m. Ahorn, reached by a large gondola from the village, has wide, gentle pistes; Penken has more varied terrain and the Harakiri, Austria’s steepest groomed run, with a 78 per cent gradient.
