About Cervinia
Breuil-Cervinia lies at 2,050 m at the foot of the Matterhorn, in the comune of Valtournenche. Its lifts reach 3,480 m at Plateau Rosa, where there is summer skiing on the glacier.
The ski area links with Valtournenche and, across the border, with Zermatt.
The snow
Cervinia is the Italian side of the Matterhorn, and one of the highest resorts in the Alps: the village sits at 2,050 m and the lifts reach 3,480 m at Plateau Rosa, where the Zermatt link and the summer glacier are. In our record it snows on about 13 days a month at mid-mountain in December, January and March, and snow was on the ground every Christmas Day in the last ten years. The slopes face south, so the snow softens in the sun by afternoon, but the height keeps it in good condition and the season runs from early November to early May.
Who it suits
Intermediates and families: Cervinia’s pistes are long, wide and gentle, with the descent from Plateau Rosa to the village one of the longest easy runs in the Alps. The link to Zermatt gives access to steeper terrain and the Klein Matterhorn. Prices are well below Zermatt’s for the same mountain.
Getting there
Turin and Milan airports are each about two to two and a half hours by road; Geneva is about three via the Mont Blanc tunnel.
