About Courchevel
Courchevel sits above the Tarentaise Valley in Savoie and is spread across several villages at different altitudes, including Courchevel Le Praz, Courchevel Village, Courchevel Moriond and Courchevel 1850. Its own ski area has more than 150 km of pistes and is linked to the rest of Les 3 Vallées.
The resort hosted the ski jumping and Nordic combined events of the 1992 Winter Olympics, and co-hosted the 2023 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships with Méribel. It also has an altiport with a short, steeply sloping runway.
The snow
Courchevel’s villages climb from Le Praz at 1,300 m to Courchevel 1850, and its lifts reach 2,738 m on the Saulire. Its slopes face mostly north, which is why Courchevel is known for holding its snow better than the sunnier Méribel side of the Trois Vallées. In our record it snows on about 13 days a month at mid-mountain in January and March, and snow was on the ground every Christmas Day in the last ten years. The lower villages and the runs to them are the weak point in a warm spell.
Who it suits
Everyone, which is the point of Courchevel: wide, immaculately groomed pistes, some of the best nursery slopes in the Alps, and steep couloirs off the Saulire for those who want them. Courchevel 1850 is the most expensive resort in France; Le Praz, Village and Moriond are the same skiing at lower prices.
Getting there
Geneva airport is about two and a half hours; Chambéry, Lyon and Grenoble are alternatives. Trains reach Moûtiers, 25 km below, with regular buses. Courchevel has its own small altiport for private aircraft.
